AARP offers free tax prep for all low/ moderate income earners at several locations, including In 2024, the Westbrook Community Center (Saturdays 8-12), Portland Public Library (Wednesdays 10-1:30), Jewish Community Alliance (Fridays 9-12), South Portland American Legion (Mondays 9-5) and more! Appointment required - call 207.518.8579 and leave your name and number.
United Way offers free online self-filing with help available, or assisted filing for those who qualify.

For those who don’t meet income requirements for free assistance, one mentor with professional tax experience recommends TurboTax assisted returns; the client has a video call with a preparer, it is reliable and affordable. The price is generally cheaper earlier in the season, so recommend to sign up before March.
